The technique of Tarot is based on the selection of cards from a special deck, which are then interpreted by a reader, according to the order or arrangement in which they have been selected or distributed.
The origin of the tarot is dark. Perhaps, like other playing cards, it goes back to the times of the ancient Egyptians, from the time scholars have recognised the major arcana in hieroglyphics. On the contrary, other scholars have talked about remarkable similarities of the playing cards with the first games and oriental idols.
On the other hand, the middle ages cannot be excluded as the cradle of the tarot. We do not even know whether the major arcana, with their symbolic drawings and the minor arcana, with their well-known four suits, were created separately and later united in a single deck, by any great mind, or if, on the contrary, were born directly as a mallet or deck of seventy-eight cards.
The reading of the tarot is framed in the belief that the cards can be used to understand current and future situations of the consulting person. One of the methods most used are the rolls, which consist of turning a number of cards that have previously been shuffled randomly and spread in a certain order face down, and give an interpretation to each card according to the relative position in which it appeared on the table and in relation to the adjacent cards.
For most people, the Tarot is an excellent aid to the divination of the future. For its students, it is an authentic encyclopedia in images, deep metaphysical and psychological content, which transmits teachings about the true nature and destiny of the human being.
Some have found connections with the great esoteric systems, with kabbalah, alchemy, astrology, magic and mythology. Many scholars see in Tarot the only completely Western esoteric path, and in their major arcana, an image of the path of esoteric initiation, a path of evolution toward inner wisdom and progress.
Thus, we can say that the Tarot is an authentic system of philosophy of nature and informs us of the relationship of the human being with all the cosmic forces that influence.
